The Atlantic doesn’t just shape our landscape, it defines our way of making wine. Its character, its breeze, its salt, its humidity, and above all, its untamed energy flow through our vineyards, forging the identity of Mar de Frades.
We invite you to discover five reasons why Atlantic power defines the soul of our wines.
1. The Atlantic climate: the elegance of our wines
The humid climate, with frequent rainfall and mild temperatures, creates the perfect environment for slow grape ripening. This climate translates into wines with vibrant acidity, citrus and floral aromas, and an unmistakable elegance.
2. The soils of the Salnés Valley: a terroir with history
Granitic, well-drained, and rich in minerals, the Galician terroir bathed by the Atlantic is a natural gem. Its soils, formed mainly by decomposed granite, are one of the keys to the distinctive character of our Albariños. The roots of our vines extract a complex minerality from these soils, which, combined with the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, gives our wines their marked identity.
3. The acidity of our wines: our Atlantic essence
The Atlantic climate results in fresh, vibrant, and long-lived wines. That natural acidity, so characteristic of Mar de Frades Albariño, is no coincidence—it’s the reflection of a humid landscape, of foggy mornings and sunlit northern afternoons. This freshness is what makes each wine a truly Atlantic experience.
4. The Atlantic breeze: salinity and character
Atlantic winds carry salt and iodine, influencing the skin of the grape and leaving a sensory trace— that mineral, slightly salty note that makes our wines so distinctive. That subtle saline touch on the palate is pure Atlantic flavor.
5. The Atlantic philosophy of Mar de Frades
Being true to our environment is our guiding principle: freedom, authenticity, and respect for nature. The immensity of the Atlantic inspires our freedom. Our wines are not only born by the sea—they are born from the sea. The Albariño grape, cultivated by the coast, reaches its peak expression when we allow it to speak honestly, in an Atlantic environment that imparts that distinctive salinity so representative of Mar de Frades.
The Atlantic philosophy of Mar de Frades is rooted in the authenticity of our surroundings, in the deep connection with the sea that surrounds us. It’s a commitment to a viticulture that respects the land and translates into vibrant, complex, and unique wines.
