We walk through the entrance to our winery and, once inside, we discover that behind it all is a group of great women. They and their talent are responsible for ensuring we can enjoy a glass of the truest Atlantic flavour of Mar de Frades Albariño.

Although the world of wine ceased to be a territory exclusive to men years ago, there is still a far greater presence of men than women in this field. The data speaks for itself: according to Spanish Wine Lover, 70% of the enologists belonging to the Spanish Federation of Enology (FEAE) are men and only 30% are women.

Mar de Frades forms part of this exceptional 30%, with Paula Fandiño as enologist and managing director of the brand. She is behind the iconic flavour of the different our winery’s different varieties. Holding a degree in Enology from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Paula has extensive winemaking experience both in Spain and abroad. Paula is one of the female exceptions that make up this 30%, the many women who display outstanding talent in their work and who continue to take steps to make the presence of women more commonplace in the world of wine. Mar de Frades is fortunate to have so much female talent in all its areas, not only in enology and viticulture but also on its marketing and communication teams.

This team of women boasts the talent of Mónica Chaves, Mar de Frades’ field manager. Mónica ensures the quality of the grapes used to make the wines we produce, a job that brings the important responsibility of obtaining the best grapes to achieve the highest quality Mar de Frades Albariño.

Another name among our female talent is Sandra Álvarez, passionate about wine, and in charge of our wine tourism area, one of Mar de Frades’ key attractions. She is the one who shows all visitors the winery and the winemaking processes in the Salnés Valley. Sandra designs unique experiences so that the visit to our winery becomes an unforgettable memory for visitors.

Paula, Mónica, Sandra and Eugenia are the names of just some of the women at Mar de Frades, but many more form part of the team. Moreover, the female talent that exists on other teams goes to show that the world of wine has been conquered by women. Mar de Frades itself is living proof.
